In all good stories, there is an overarching theme. But let’s set the scene first: In elementary school, I started doing traditional art. I was gifted a Wacom tablet in middle school, and I was pretty terrible at digital drawing. When I started trying Photoshop and Procreate, graphic design became a bridge between business career opportunity and creativity. Now, I’m in high school, teaching art on the side, Co-Art Editor for Vertigo literary magazine, a past winner to design Cupertino’s utility boxes and a current designer for a clothing brand, among other activities. Even though I started off on a rough foot, graphic design is now a mode to further my art onto different mediums; I even won a Scholastic Art Gold Key award in the digital art category this year! So you may ask, what’s the theme of this little story? Whether as a hobby or career path, graphic design can be a valuable part of your life, and there is always time to try it out. Everyone starts somewhere, after all!
